Becca Christeson, RN

When my future father-in-law was admitted while on comfort care, Becca was the first nurse we met during his time on Wishart 2. She addressed his open wounds and covered the ones that were leaking and made sure he was comfortable both with positioning him and giving him medication.
 
Becca went above and beyond to make sure that the four of us were taken care of. She was willing to sit with my future father-in-law in the room so we could all go eat something. She encouraged us to take breaks and get some sleep.
 
My future brother-in-law was a nurse, and he never hesitated to step in to help when it came to other nurses. He truly felt like Becca never needed his help. We never had to go looking for Becca when we needed something, like repositioning him, giving him meds, or answering any questions we may have. I remember after we got him all settled into the room, I went to the nurse’s station to talk to Becca about what to expect and asked her to be real and she was honest with me and that she had no idea how long we would be.
 
We saw her throughout our stay. We were lucky enough to have Becca be onsite when my future father-in-law eventually passed. She made sure we had things to eat and drink. She filled us in on everything from what to expect to next steps. Every time she came into the room, she had tears in her eyes, and you could tell she truly cared. She made sure not only was our dad comfortable, but we were comfortable too. 
 
We expressed some concerns to her, and she made sure we were heard. When we came to the end of his life, Becca was in the room with us for over an hour. She never left our or his side once. As a current Mayo Clinic employee and a lifetime member receiving care at Mayo Clinic, I have never seen anyone exceed the expectations of patient and family care the way Becca did.
