She always seeks a level of understanding and looks meticulously through data to learn the “why” behind our unit goals in order to encourage and support our entire team’s initiatives.
Becky has been a staple on the Observation Unit since it began in the 1st-floor space connected to the ED. She helped foster and grow the unit and all of the team members who joined us. Becky has worn many hats over her years at United Hospital including charge nurse, preceptor, assistant clinical manager, and unit council member and she even served as interim manager for a few months. She has been an absolutely essential member of our team. She willingly takes on extra work and opportunities for the good of the department and the hospital. She always seeks a level of understanding and looks meticulously through data to learn the “why” behind our unit goals in order to encourage and support our entire team’s initiatives. One specific process improvement was her work on the orange card project to help facilitate ED flow. Becky’s primary focus and inspiration are consistently driven by her commitment to her coworkers, and our patients equally.

Becky’s dedication to her work is continually noticed by our team and others throughout the hospital. One of the many recognitions states: “You are such a leader to this team and we all look up to you so much. You are a rock and keep our unit stable and grounded. Thank you for always answering my many questions and helping me brainstorm and think of the best way to do things. I don't know what we (I) would do without you!!”

Becky, I have learned so much from you on the floor and relied on you throughout my transition to the PCS role (especially through unit reconfiguration). I truly do not think I would be the nurse or leader I am today without your guidance, patience, and mentorship through the years. I still look back on all the documents you created and wonder how you managed full-time charge nurse, ACM duties, basically all the PCS duties, on top of precepting the new hires, and oh, by the way… a husband and 4 kids at home. You are a WONDERWOMAN! That is why I wished to recognize you with The DAISY Award as a tribute to show you how much you have impacted me, our unit, our patients, and United Hospital. I certainly know none of us would be the same without you.

Becky, you trained me as a new manager when I was brand new to my role. You were masterful at helping me see the vision of what the Observation Unit could become. You’ve continued to be a sounding board, someone who gives meaningful input, feedback and offers creative solutions to the problems that we have faced over the past 3 years. I know that I couldn’t have led this team the last three years without you!! You deserve to receive this award every year and I’m happy that we can formally recognize you today.
