A patient had an extremely difficult condition. The nurse caring for the patient knew Becky had the expertise for this patient's condition. She called Becky at home. Becky then spoke to the physician and the nurse and was able to give them advice over the phone to help care for this patient, preventing any complications and calming the patient.
Becky is able to teach patients to do things that they never thought they would possibly be able to do. The elderly patient doing her own IVs, the patient with the new ostomy who is afraid, the patient who never thought they would be able to change their own dressing. Becky does this because she knows in her heart that these things are possible if you treat the patient with compassion and provide the encouragement that they need. Becky is the epitome of what every nurse should strive to be.
