I would like to celebrate Becky Burress as she exhibits kindness and compassion in every patient interaction and makes a difference every day in the lives of her patients. Becky spoke with a patient and caregiver during a nurse triage call and based on that triage, Becky recommended the patient be seen in the ED. The patient did not want to go and said she would go tomorrow against Becky's urging that not going could endanger her health. Patient has many comorbidities, and caregiver stated patient was combative at times; caregiver was unable to check the patient's blood sugar levels and sounded stressed. Becky reached out to the patient's primary care clinic to share her concerns, eventually speaking with the social worker who followed up with the patient and persuaded her to go to the ED. This patient was subsequently intubated and admitted to ICU for sepsis with pneumonia. This patient may have succumbed to her illness at home if not for Becky's assessment and perseverance to provide the needed care. Having been in the health care profession for over 30 years, if I needed help, I would not hesitate to reach out to Becky for care advice, and I would like to recognize her for her continued efforts to improve patient's lives. Becky is truly a shining star in her leadership and an asset to Health Connections and Eskenazi Health.
