I asked Becky if I could hold her hand, and she said of course. The comfort I felt with Becky made me realize that there are some really great nurses out here who love and care for their patients, treat them, and make them feel like family.
I have pulmonary disease and severe chronic asthma. I arrived by ambulance Monday having tightness in my chest and could barley breathe. I made it upstairs around 11:00. Becky was my nurse, and by now, I was on the by-pap/c-pap machine, and I was in full panic mode, nervous, scared, thinking I was not going to make it. I was overwhelmed with fear; I felt the room closing on me. I was gasping for air. In between breaths, I asked Becky if she could stay with me because I didn’t feel comfortable, and she said, of course, without hesitation.

For the next two hours give or take, Becky stayed, she comforted me, she was caring and patient, calm-tempered which ultimately made it easier for me to calm down. My blood pressure was 161, my heart rate was 149, and the tightness in my chest was almost unbearable. Becky continuously advised me to take slow deep breaths and try to relax. I asked Becky if I could hold her hand, and she said of course. The comfort I felt with Becky made me realize that there are some really great nurses out here who love and care for their patients, treat them, and make them feel like family. They say energy rubs off from person to person and Becky’s positive energy rubbed off on me and began a healing energy inside of me.

When I woke up, she was leaving me a handwritten note on a napkin telling me “don’t forget to take nice deep slow breaths”. So much compassion I can honestly say that I’m not sure if it would’ve survived if it wasn’t for Becky’s calm presence and the passion she has for her patients.

I’m proud to say obviously I made it; I’m getting discharged tomorrow morning and tonight at 11pm Becky will be my nurse – how the universe works. When I came in Monday night, Becky was my 1st nurse. I leave tomorrow and Becky will be my nurse. I’m going to try to stay up and see Becky tonight, but if I fall asleep, I’ll hopefully see her in the morning. Either way, Ms. Becky is my new HERO and will always be my ANGEL.
