She was the best advocate for the patient and got the physician on board with starting protocols. While all the other nurses in the room helped get orders done, Becky made sure to include the patient's frantic wife and talk with her about what was happening.
Becky is one of the best nurses I have had the pleasure of working with. She is caring, passionate, hardworking, and is a great advocate for her patients. There are many other words to describe her passion for nursing, but these are just a few. Although she works in PACU, she still seems to make a difference in her patients, whether it is a small gesture they may not remember due to anesthesia or making a patient smile by cracking a joke after a long procedure. She is always a bright light in the whole surgical unit.

Although there are many instances that I could describe that make Becky a good nurse, this one instance stands out to me the most. We had an older patient in short stay who was rapidly declining, so we called her and another PACU nurse to come over and look at the patient to give their opinion on the situation. She came over without hesitation and got things in order to help get this patient better. She was the best advocate for the patient and got the physician on board with starting protocols. While all the other nurses in the room helped get orders done, Becky made sure to include the patient's frantic wife and talk with her about what was happening. She told the wife to contact a support person who could come and sit with her while her husband was in surgery. Becky stepped aside when there were plenty of other hands-on deck with the patient and helped the wife get in touch with their granddaughter and explain all what was happening because the wife was too upset and was confused with all that was happening so quickly. The wife was upset and crying, and Becky sat down with her, let her express her concerns, and then prayed with the wife. The patient's wife was very thankful for all we had done for her husband and expressed this to each of us many times.

When the patient went back for surgery, Becky made sure to get the wife warm blankets so she would not be cold sitting out in the waiting area. About 10 minutes after the patient went back for his procedure, it was time for some of us SSU workers to leave for the day. We walked out to go home, and Becky was sitting in the waiting area with the patient's wife until her granddaughter made it to the hospital to be with the wife.

Becky has a kind heart, always has a smile, and is always trying to make everyone else smile, she is a team player, but most importantly, is one of the best nurses I have had the pleasure to work with. I hope that throughout my nursing career, I always have the love and passion for nursing that she has had through all her years of nursing.
