Though I was beside myself about having to have a cesarean, my nurses were very supportive and did what was best for me and my baby.
I was a patient, delivering my son in September. While delivering my son, G, I was blessed with a great staff of nurses. From the beginning of my labor, nurse Becky Moffatt stood out to me. As someone who was past her due date, I was exhausted. She made sure to take good care of me. With my first child, I had a natural birth and was set on delivering naturally this go-around. When I went into the hospital, Becky came to get me from the ER and helped me get ready. She gave me an IV, helped me get dressed, checked me, and made sure I didn’t need anything. She was checking on me and my husband and always kept a good look at my chart. Nurse Becky was also there when I got my epidural. She made sure I was bent over and was very supportive, as I was very nervous. The man who did my epidural was great as well. After getting the epidural, I progressed. As I progressed, nurse Becky paid attention to my son’s heart rate. At this point, they noticed that his heart rate dropped while I had contractions. Becky, T, and L helped me move to several different positions, along with movements to try and move him around. They were checking me and moving my position every ten to twenty minutes to try and raise his heart rate. After trying many different things, nurse Becky Moffatt called Dr. S in to do an emergency cesarean. Though I was beside myself about having to have a cesarean, my nurses were very supportive and did what was best for me and my baby. Becky made sure to keep me calm and explained everything to me. She answered all of my questions with such grace and was very assuring that everything would be just fine. She was, in fact, correct. Dr. S was great, quick, and checked on me multiple times. While being wheeled into the surgery room, A was assuring me that he would make sure I didn’t feel anything. When he checked me to see if I would have any pain, I could feel him beside me. He then put me to sleep and told me everything would be fine. When I woke up, he had my favorite music going - he had asked my husband what type of music I like to listen to. I thought that was extremely thoughtful and nice. After delivery, it was the morning shift's turn. Not only was the morning shift great, but some of the night shift nurses stayed after clocking out to check on me. Every doctor came back at least twice to check on me and my baby. Though my delivery didn’t go as planned, I am super thankful for the support that I received. I can’t thank them enough for all that they did for me and my little family. I would like to nominate Becky Moffatt for the DAISY Award. She paid such great attention to me and my baby. I’m 100% positive that if it wasn’t for her and her fast acting, my sweet baby wouldn’t be here. She was so quick and also helped me with my nerves. I would like to add that she also helped deliver my first baby and was amazing then, too. She truly is a great nurse!
