Belinda Renshaw exemplifies what nursing is all about. She shows care and compassion and daily goes above and beyond what is necessary, often at great personal sacrifice. She is a leader who serves those she leads thus being an example of what true leadership is. If anyone deserves this award this nurse does. Someone once said that when you are a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours. Truer words were never spoken and this nurse has touched many lives over the course of her career and continues to do so.

Belinda is an ever present cornerstone in the unit. She always has the unit at heart through every chapter of her nursing career and even through her personal illness. She has been a beacon of light and positive energy to the unit. I respect her for what she stands for as well as for how she practices this art we call nursing and most of all the love she gives. It is a pleasure to work alongside of her.

Belinda is one of the most compassionate and selfless people I know. Even when overwhelmed with responsibilities of her own, she has always been willing to lend a hand to the other nurses. She has been selfless in that she has sacrificed her time off to come in and help out when the unit has been short staffed. In what can be such a thankless job, I believe that she certainly deserves recognition for her constant strong work and dedication to our unit. For example: she has voluntarily taken on the responsibility of the day shift schedule (and everyone knows just what a task that is for this department) and has worked tirelessly to accommodate the nurses’ needs all while making sure the unit stays adequately staffed, filling in herself various days when needed. Even on her most stressful of days, I have always been greeted with a comforting smile and hug when I enter the department. I think this acknowledgment for her hard work and dedication is long overdue.

Belinda is the epitome of what a nurse should be. She shows up to work every day with such a positive attitude, contagious smile, and love for nursing that radiates to everyone around her. Her skills at the bedside, leadership on our unit, and compassion she shows in her daily nursing duties is second to none. She is a role model for me in my nursing career and I can say it is a true honor to get to work alongside her every day. Words cannot describe the amount of admiration I have for her not only as a nurse, but as a person.

Belinda Renshaw encompasses all of the qualities a nurse should have. She is a true patient advocate and shows empathy to all of her patients and their family members. Belinda brings a sense of peace and calmness to her patients as they are waking up from open heart surgery. She is a true role model of what a nurse should be and strive to be. As a new nurse in the CVICU she ensured I had all of the tools I needed to be successful even though she was not my preceptor. She goes out of her way every shift to ensure all of the staff has what they need to provide safe patient care. She puts the team's needs before her own. She instills confidence and knowledge in new nurses by bringing out their best qualities.

She is the definition of an extraordinary nurse and deserves to be honored with this DAISY Award.
