Ben demonstrated compassion from the moment he met my mother and me in the waiting room. His demeanor and message immediately put my mother at ease and his attention to detail regarding her care started there and continued for nearly nine hours. He never made assumptions about my mother based on her age or physical appearance, and he never treated her like a number or a transaction.
In his preparation, Ben was thorough and thoughtful and met my mother's sense of humor where she needed him to in order to put facing cancer in the right perspective. My mother ended up having complications from her lung biopsy and Ben's level of care never waned; he was steadfast in his commitment to my mother's wellbeing, despite several curve balls and what ended up being a full day of demands. And, no matter how critical the need (managing my mother's excruciating pain or responding to her sudden oxygen drop) or how small (my mother's request for another warm blanket or a trip to the restroom), Ben made my mother feel confident and comfortable.
