I think Benita is special because she shows the one thing that all nurses should have: compassion. As a nursing student who precepted under her supervision, I got to see firsthand the impact she had on her patient's lives as well as my future nursing career. For me, she thoroughly showed me her methodical ways of pulling medicines and organizing her hectic days. These little things I will always remember in my nursing career. Though they were small, they left a lasting impression because it showed that she cared enough about me and nursing, in general, to take a step back from her routine and teach me her ways.
Not only did she help me in more ways than one but she also helped so many patients and their families. From the man who wanted to talk continuously to the lady who was put on hospice, she was there listening to each word. Though the few days I was with her were hectic, she never once was rude to a patient or family of a patient. She was empathetic with all and took every single extra mile to well equip these people. If I'm ever half the nurse she is, I think I would be a pretty great nurse. She showed me that nursing doesn't have to involve numerous different personality traits if you had the one most important one: compassion. Her final words to me were that even on her worst days, she still loved what she did and wouldn't have it any other way.
