Ben was recognized by his co-worker who shared that every day Ben is at the bedside and he shows the utmost respect for his patients and co-workers. He continually strives to improve the hospital stay of patients and families by keeping them informed on the pain of care, by holding himself to the high standards of care, and with compassion and empathy.
Recently we had a patient who was at risk for violence with very aggressive and threatening behaviors. Ben recognized this and volunteered to change his assignment to be with this patient because he realized he was the best person for the role at that time. He not only wanted the best care for the patient by understanding their complex needs. He also understood the stress his co-workers would have had if they cared for the patient and Ben chose to do what he felt was in the best interest of everyone. Not only does it show his commitment to his team but it also showcases Ben's personal values as a human being. He is kind, chivalrous, fair, and humble.
Ben has always been a unit leader and leads by example. He keeps abreast of practice changes and advancements and continually works to develop his peers and elevate our standard of care. He is one of our finest nurses in SICU and could never thank him enough for all his contributions to our work.
