Ben came in one day with a wedge, in which he carved out groove spots for my call bell, PCA button, remote, and phone.
I had a severe burn that left me isolated in my room for roughly 9 months, which introduced me to Ben. I was always excited to have Ben as my nurse because I knew the day would be pleasant. He would bring his speaker with him to work, and we would put on some comforting music, which was usually whatever I preferred. Ben would immediately get to work. He would only leave the room for lunch or charting, otherwise he was always present in the room with me. Attentive presence was exactly what I needed at that time.

About five months into my stay, I was able to partially use my arms and hands again, but I was unable to hold anything. Ben came in one day with a wedge, in which he carved out groove spots for my call bell, PCA button, remote, and phone. The piece of foam that Ben made was exclusively for me, and it has made my life so much easier inside the hospital and outside in the community. It's a tool I use EVERY DAY!

I recently returned to the hospital for a follow up surgery and ran into him. After his shift, he came and visited for about 2 hours and made a new foam piece for me. This man went above and beyond for me, even when I wasn't his patient. He is a true DAISY Nurse.
