There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that had it not been for this nurse, my wife would not be with us right now.

When my wife came in due to excruciating pain, we quickly found out what she had and possibly an infection. I was notified that they had moved her. When I arrived, this nurse informed me that she was able to receive more pain meds only 20 minutes prior to my arrival. 

In our stay here, she was seen by over 20 doctors and nurses, most of which agreed that had we hesitated even 12-24 hours my wife very likely would not have survived. Looking back, this nurse was the captain of that ship and acted with poise and urgency simultaneously, while keeping me calm and aware of what was going on in detail without showing any signs of concern or fear. For the next 12 hours, arguably the most crucial time frame in her stay to determine the root cause of her issue and what the right path forward was, this nurse created an environment that never once elevated my level of fear or concern beyond what was necessary for me to understand what was happening in that moment. This nurse’s faith in the most optimistic of outcomes allowed me to focus on being strong for my wife, whose trauma was so intense that her memories were blocked from late Friday through Monday. 

This nurse comforted me as if we were childhood friends and fought in the trenches of Iraq, understanding the emotional toll it could take on me if I didn't have a rock of my own to lean against when my own fears crept in. To say that this nurse was anything less than a Godsend would be wildly insulting to the impact they have made on my and my wife's lives. She wouldn't have survived if he hesitated and didn't create urgency in the team that ultimately came together to save my wife. My gratitude for this nurse and all the staff that attended to her cannot be quantified with mere words.
