My father was an extremely complex patient. I was his only child and was left to advocate for and make decisions on his behalf. I would call each shift for changes or updates. Ben exuded exactly what a patient, caring, respectful, and honest nurse is. While I was tasked with making decisions for a man I never woke up a day without, Ben gave me an honest, clear, and concise interpretation of medical talk. He was not rushing me or talking to me as if I were stupid. The relationship he took time to build was the best part. His shifts were my favorite because I was able to sleep and know in my heart my father was ok, even if death was waiting in the corner. So many times, nurses lose sight of what they are here to do, but not Ben. Ben allowed me to acknowledge my emotions, and because of him, I was able to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life. So, as you read this, just know that no matter how much negativity the hospital gets, there are some amazing people in the facility. Ben deserves this award.
