Here is another amazing woman and member of your team. I was able to leave at night feeling T was in great hands when Berani was working. I was awestruck by this young woman’s combination of compassion and professionalism. She too could see through T’s struggles to his heart and his humanity. She brought him much comfort. One example I’ll share is from the first night she was on duty with T. He was, as usual, struggling with pain and anxiety. She immediately connected with him through compassion and touch, seeing his pain and validating him as a valuable human being. During this interaction, she recognized a potential connection he had with spirituality. She, sitting alongside him, holding his hand, asked if he wanted to pray. After a bit of a long pause, he said, “Yes”, and she began to pray with him. I am not a religious person myself, but the sincerity and love in her expression of her words brought tears to my eyes (and still does every time I retell the story). The compassion and competence this woman has, at such a young age, is remarkable. She made a positive difference in our time at the hospital, and I can only believe she has had similar impacts on other patients.
