New nursing school graduate Berline Laurent, B.S.N. ’25, leads with heart and purpose. She is praised for her calm presence and attentive listening, as well as for bringing empathy, attentiveness, and strong advocacy to every clinical experience. “Exceptional nursing care begins with truly seeing the whole person—not just the diagnosis,” said Laurent. “I am deeply honored to receive the Student DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Student as I continue my journey into the nursing profession. Nursing work is grounded in compassion, responsibility, and continuous growth. ” Laurent earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Florida International University before completing the accelerated B.S.N. program at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies in December 2025. Prior to graduating, she was recognized with the school’s UHealth – University of Miami Health System Bachelor of Science in Nursing Spirit of Nursing Award. Nominations for her DAISY Award came from instructors at several of her community and clinical placement sites. They applauded her professionalism, leadership, and “natural ability to apply her nursing knowledge.” In addition to demonstrating “flexibility, emotional intelligence, and creativity,” Laurent exemplifies “the highest standards of nursing through her compassion, dedication, and selfless commitment,” they stated. “She will make an “exceptional nurse.”
