This note was from a 25-year-old patient who had been under Bernadette's care for quite some time. The patient had been at the facility for 60 days (this time round). She has comorbidities and has been in and out of the hospital since birth. The patient gets frustrated with her care and was "tired of being sick." Bernadette would, of course, take care of the patient’s physical needs, but Bernadette also believes a nurse needs to provide a patient emotional support as well. Bernadette provided her patient positive feedback on their progress and helped her believe there is light at the end of the tunnel. Bernadette also encourages her patients to have an active role in their own health. This note was a way for the patient to say thank you for the support Bernadette provides to her.

The patient provided a handmade card to Bernadette that said, "Thanks for never letting me give up and for teaching me to not back down and to always make my voice be heard and concerns felt listened to. You are a huge inspiration to me, and I promise to always listen to your voice in the back of my mind when I need to! Thanks for everything and always being there when I need someone! You're a blessing and strong, and I believe God put you in my life for many reasons, and for those, I'll forever be thankful."
