Bernadette Gomez, RN, BSN

We are writing to you to nominate Bernadette Gomez for a DAISY Award. Bernadette has displayed unrelenting compassion, kindness, and consideration for everyone she encountered—patients, families, and staff. She is constantly asking how each and every one of us is doing. She lends a hand whenever something needs to be done. Pushing a bed when no one is available. Transferring a patient or cleaning a patient when staff needs assistance. She doesn’t just write reports, attend meetings, and manage the 5th floor. She also makes sure that the patients are cared for, their needs met, and families’ concerns are attended to with what is obviously an authentic presence, and she listens attentively to staff's concerns and ideas. She untangles thorny issues with ease and grace. Always with a smile. She is considerate and patient with her staff. She encourages us to rise above and be our best in the finest tradition of Kaiser Permanente. She typifies ‘just culture’ by addressing employee concerns with consideration and respect.
 
Bernadette has been like this since we've known her for almost 20 years now, from being a staff nurse to ANM, then to Manager. There have been many amazing managers here on the 5th floor. Bernadette continued that tradition and attained a place amongst their ranks as one of the greats.
