During her own lunch break, she went to Walmart and purchased a rolling cart so the patient could safely store and transport her belongings.
Besmira consistently demonstrates extraordinary compassion, empathy, and dedication to their patients. Her actions go far beyond routine nursing care and truly represent the heart of the nursing profession. Recently, we cared for a homeless patient who had been living on the streets and arrived with all of her belongings in a single plastic bag. When Besmira learned about this patient’s situation, she immediately stepped into action.

During her own lunch break, she went to Walmart and purchased a rolling cart so the patient could safely store and transport her belongings. On the day of discharge, Besmira personally walked the patient to the bus stop, stayed with her, and made sure she boarded safely. She treated this patient with dignity, respect, and deep compassion. What makes Besmira even more deserving of this nomination is that this was not an isolated act of kindness. They consistently go above and beyond for their patients.

On another occasion, she cared for a very ill patient who had been unable to wash her hair for nearly a year. Recognizing how important dignity and personal care are to emotional well-being, she again used their own lunch break to go to Walgreens and purchase shampoo and hair care products. Besmira returned and gently washed and cared for the patient’s hair, giving her not only hygiene care but also comfort, confidence, and a sense of being valued.

These are not tasks assigned, expected, or required. These are the actions of a nurse who sees the humanity in every person they care for. Besmira gives their patients something far greater than medical treatment; they give them dignity, hope, and kindness at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Her compassion shines in everything she does, and she is an inspiration to all of us who witness their dedication.
