She gently talked me into an awake state, checking on me, answering questions and comments I don't even remember saying
I was a patient of Dr. M. and Dr. Z. in 2009 for Rectal cancer, stage 3. When I found out I had a second cancer, eleven years later, I trusted that Dr. Z. would take great care of my critical health care needs once again. So, I travel (about 2 hours) to Lankenau to get my treatments. Dr. S. performed same-day port surgery for me. My port surgery was at about 9 pm at night. After I woke up in recovery I was greeted by a nurse named Beth (I don't know her last name). She gently talked me into an awake state, checking on me, answering questions and comments I don't even remember saying, however, knowing her presence was near felt safe to me. I was in some pain and she immediately explained some of the medicines that could be given and administered them as needed. When I was alert enough, she wheeled me to the bathroom. It took me a while to truly wake up and be ready for discharge, which I believe was close to midnight! Beth continued to be professional, personable, and helpful, as she had to wheel me down to the main lobby to meet my husband. She explained to my husband the pain medicines and the next few days ahead. She even showed us how to place the pillow between the safety belt and my body so it would not rub against the port. I want to acknowledge and give Beth the recognition she deserves for being such a compassionate, caring, and truly sincere nurse. Most importantly her knowledge of nursing skills to immediately be attentive to what I needed. She is the absolute example of what every health care system would want to emulate in their nursing staff for all patients. I'm thankful, she was there for me.
