Beth makes a difference in all of the patients she comes into contact with through compassion and using her witty sense of humor to make our patients laugh. Her demeanor is always appropriate and she is always keeping the best interest of the patient in mind.

Yesterday, a patient started a chemotherapy drug that is given through a subcutaneous injection. The patient stated “that’s it” when Beth was done and Beth responded with “yep, that wasn’t so bad was it?” The patient responded with “easy for you to say” in a light-hearted tone. Beth responded with, “Do you want to poke me back so we’re even?” Those probably weren’t her exact words but the way Beth responded made the whole room chuckle, including the patient. I have a hard time recapturing Beth's funny moments, but I can assure you that all of our patients think Beth is amusing and an exceptional nurse.

On a more serious note, there was another time when a patient was having a reaction to treatment. All I had to do was calmly poke my head out of the room with my big deer in the headlight eyes and say, “Beth can you come here,” hoping to get her attention without stirring up anxiety with other patients but allowing her to read my face that there was a problem. Beth could read my facial expression and immediately came to the room and brought another nurse with her for backup.

To conclude, Beth is quick to react in serious situations and knows how to make our patients' anxiety melt away through kindness and humor. She is all around the perfect nurse.
