Beth has worked incredibly hard to build a relationship with a young patient who has previously struggled to access the care that they need. She has led by example with her team, showing them how to engage the patient and work in collaboration with them so that their health improves. Beth has gone above and beyond expectation, even supporting the patient with laundry and has also organised them a party on the ward, when their birthday may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

Beth delivers outstanding patient-centred care with compassion and empowers her team to follow her example. One example is the care of a young adult on the ward with a learning disability and autism who has lived in care all his life. He has been in hospital with us for a long time and is awaiting placement in a place appropriate for him. Beth has gone out of her way to support him so that he is now able to engage in difficult dialysis treatment and all the things that go with that. Beth has come in on her days off to support him and the team, organised collections so his birthday can be celebrated in hospital (he does not have regular visitors) and role modelled behaviours that have enabled the whole team to be able to engage with this patient. 

A second example was to support a bereaved family. Their son had died suddenly in hospital before he arrived on a ward. Beth took responsibility for ensuring the family was supported over the weekend, came in to enable the family to visit the deceased in the mortuary, and role modelled patient and family centred care in a situation where others had not been able to.

Beth has a positive approach all the time - she treats patients and their families in a way I would want my family to be treated, and exudes the Leeds way values in all she does. We are so lucky to have Beth as a leader. Beth - thank you for everything you do every day. You have a positive impact on everyone you meet.
