Beth Hoover is a perfect example of what a Mount Carmel employee should be. She is a leader on the floor and often precepts new nurses. One of the many things that make Beth so special is her commitment to all of our patients, regardless of their circumstances. A patient on our floor has been there for almost a year. While he is always well cared for, sometimes other patients are prioritized over him. I was this patient's primary nurse one Monday, and Beth was working with me. I was in another critical patient's room for most of the day, focusing on keeping that patient stable. Beth told me that she would check on my other patients and help me out (which is something she always does for me because she is an awesome team player). When I went into our long-term patient's room, I was struck by the change. Beth had bathed my patient, combed and cut his hair, washed under his nails and clipped his toenails (with the physician's permission), rubbed cream on his skin, and helped my patient get up in the chair. My patient looked like a new person and he was glowing. With tears in his eyes, he told me "Beth took the time to listen to me, she helped me feel like clean and like I matter. I feel human again because of her".
What a huge blessing she is to me and to the whole floor. She has trained a significant amount of our new nurses, and she is a fantastic example of what type of nurse we should all strive to be.
