There is something to be said for an employee who comes in and does her job, supports her physician and her team, and cares about her patients. This is Beth. She has been a nurse for a long time. She is kind and compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. Whenever I talk with her about patients, their care and safety are her number one priority. It is so obvious by the way she talks to her patients. There are many phone calls to and from patients and she takes every call in a calm, patient, and obliging manner. She has a quiet demeanor which is a huge help with our patient population, but do not let that fool you. She has the most fun and infectious laugh and it makes me smile when I hear it. It is also a pleasure to manage her. She never comes to me until she has exhausted every avenue to solve a problem. She stays out of any drama or gossip and shows dignity and respect to me, the physicians, the staff, and her patients.

Per one of our patients, E, she was amazing. She did not care that people were waiting. She took her time explaining to me what she needed to explain. She had a calming personality. She explained everything carefully and was an extension of the doctor. I imagine she diffuses fears because she talks gently, quietly, and calmly. I cannot say enough good things about her. She was a gift from God at my appointment. I am very appreciative of my doctor, Beth, and the office for the care and coordination provided.

As you can see, E echoed my thoughts about Beth. Per the doctor who has been working with Beth as her nurse for almost 10 years, she provides outstanding, compassionate care for her patients with breast cancer, despite her own significant medical challenges or perhaps because of them. I think her personal experience has given her a tremendous amount of empathy and patience and she prides herself on being the resource and advocate that our patients can turn to when they need help and guidance best never hesitates to stay with me until the end of every clinic and never complains when she must do so. She is responsible and shows integrity every day. I could not do all I do, without Beth's work ethic and concern for our patients. The fact that she does all of this while managing substantial medical challenges of her own is extraordinary.

As you can see, she is very loyal to the doctor and their patients. She has some things going on in her life that might keep someone else from being the great nurse Beth is, but she does not let that affect her in any way. She does her best every day to make patients comfortable and understand their diagnoses. She is the doctor's right-hand person and has been for many years. The doctor is lucky to have her as a part of the team, Magee Women’s Surgical Associates is lucky to have her, our patients are lucky and so is UPMC. Beth Zavolta encompasses the UPMC core values every day and with every interaction and truly is a DAISY Nurse.
