July 2025 Honoree
BethAnn Sheedy, RN
After being unexpectedly diagnosed with preeclampsia at 38 weeks, my husband and I found ourselves at Bellevue's labor and delivery triage after my blood pressure spiked. At the time, we assumed that I would receive medication and be sent home.
After monitoring my blood pressure, Bethann informed us that we would not be going home and instead I would have to be induced. This was my first baby me what I thought would happen quickly flew out the window. I suddenly needed a lot more medical intervention than expected after a fairly uncomplicated pregnancy.
Bethann was my day shift nurse for the following two days. She ensured that I fully understood all of the interventions, that my voice was heard, and that I was advocated for. Bethann showed my husband and me the care and compassion that we needed during a scary time .
She went a long way toward ensuring that, despite very little going according to plan, I felt supported and cared for. Our wonderful son came at the very end of her second day shift with us, and I am so thankful that she was there.
