I have worked with Bethany Hanson as a nurse and as a patient. She has years of experience and knowledge, but always makes sure she keeps herself up to date with the most evidence-based care.

When I had my first two babies, I did breastfeed, but was not as successful as with my third. I had my last baby here and was able to breastfeed him for a year and a half. I feel as if part of my success with breastfeeding was due to getting the education and resources from Bethany. When I was sick, she would help me with appropriate OTC medications or evidence-based interventions that would help instead of antibiotics. Bethany was also there the day I had my baby, and she provided so much comfort and even washed my back. Gosh, that felt good!

Patient Advocate- I have seen Bethany advocate for her patients. She is always very available for her patients and comes in on holidays, weekends, and after hours. She'll go to other clinics to see patients, etc. She goes above and beyond to make sure that her patients have the resources, education, etc., to have a good experience here.

Empathy and Compassion- Bethany has a warm and fuzzy approach to her care. I don't believe washing my back was in her job description. But I do believe that nurses that are able to go back to basics of care and provide comfort are some of the very best.

Trust and teamwork- Bethany is very flexible and often willing to hop in on the clinic side of things and answer MyChart messages for patients. She's also been an excellent resource for us in the clinic when it comes to patients calling in, and they may be experiencing a miscarriage. Bethany has the education and experience to help grief care and supporting an individual during a miscarriage.

Accepts diversity- Bethany helps patients of all cultures. She knows her patients and families and who needs an interpreter/who may need a special dialect, etc.

Listens and connects with the patient- Bethany treats each one of her patients individually based on their needs, whether it's education level, income/insurance, ethnicity, religion, etc.

Supports outstanding patient care through excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills- Bethany not only provides this for her patients, but also her fellow nurses by educating those around her, too, to make sure that we are also giving patients the most up-to-date evidence-based care/education. She is also always striving to improve the OB/lactation program here at Palmer.

Thank you, Bethany, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
