We had a young patient with cervical cancer admitted to our oncology unit. The patient had previously undergone chemotherapy with us and became very close to several of our nurses. The patient was craving McDonald's so one of our nurses, Bethany Kanaar, went out of her way to bring lunch to the patient. Bethany also brought the patient some fuzzy warm socks and comfort room spray.
Bethany wanted the patient to know she wasn't alone in her journey and how much Bethany cared for her. The patient was overjoyed with the feeling of reassurance, love, and compassion. Bethany takes so much pride in her work and the care she provides for our patients. Bethany is frequently found helping others and mentoring along the way. This nurse is an angel sent down by God to help ease the pain and suffering of her patients by being next to them during their most raw and vulnerable times.
