I took over care of a patient following Bethany (she was the night RN). This was the same day the "bomb cyclone" hit Colorado. The patient had been admitted to the hospital about a month prior for "hip pain" which turned out to be an infection. The infection wasn't responding to antibiotics and her kidneys had been injured to the point where she needed dialysis. Unfortunately, this patient's body could not tolerate dialysis either and therefore this patient was going to go into hospice care. Bethany took care of this patient the night after the patient received the news that there was nothing else that could be done and her best option was hospice. The patient was very scared and upset and not only did Bethany support her/cry with her throughout that night, but the next morning (during the beginning of the bomb cyclone) Bethany went to King Soopers and bought several different types of pudding for the patient (because that is all she had been eating/tolerating for over a week) and brought these back to the hospital after her shift was over. The patient was beyond thankful for Bethany's care and generous gift/thought. Bethany goes above and beyond for her patients and this is only one example. This dying patient lit up smiling every time I brought her a new flavor pudding. Thank you, Bethany.
