Where to start - firstly if it wasn’t for Beth fighting in my corner, my labour could have been a completely different story. Beth came on in late afternoon after I had been actively pushing for a while and she raised her concern of how long I had been pushing for. She was supportive, calm, and protective of me to ensure I had the safe arrival of my baby boy. Beth knew things were changing and was concerned about how long I had pushed for with no real change. She escalated to the coordinator to review and then a decision was made for me to go to theatre. On the day, there was only one theatre running, and I was told to wait for a decision to be made on which category took priority. My husband was amazed at this point to see Beth in the coordinator’s office pushing for my case to be a priority, which, in the end, the theatre team confirmed I was to go down.

Beth is an outstanding midwife who demonstrates all the trust values and is someone you would want with you every step of your Labour journey. She never gave up and also came into theatre with me and supported me through this journey. Being your first time, it can be really scary and not knowing what to expect but as soon as Beth took over, she ensured patient-level care was followed through to the highest standard and was always supporting me through everything. Beth really deserves the DAISY Award as an outstanding midwife to the organisation at UHCW. She is the true meaning of what a midwife should stand for.

Beth, you’re one incredible midwife who should be proud of yourself, and this is the reason for me thanking you and voicing how you should be recognised for all your hard work as without you I don’t know what would have happened. You’re amazing and so worthy of this award. Thank you.
