While navigating the complexities of parenting alongside a nurse was daunting, Betsy's encouragement allowed us to bond with our son in ways we hadn’t imagined, fostering a sense of partnership that eased our worries and deepened our appreciation for her.
Betsy has been an incredible blessing to our family. She has always treated us with respect and professionalism but has found a way to make us feel at home while we are with our son. From a professional perspective, Betsy has displayed herself as an expert in her field. She can break down complex information clearly and simply.
It’s tough as second-time parents feeling like someone else is taking care of their child. Betsy transformed our experience. Instead of feeling sidelined, she welcomed us into the care process, turning each task into an opportunity. She even gave our daughter a toy doctor kit so she could feel a part of the process as well. Her warmth and patience made us feel like partners, not bystanders. While navigating the complexities of parenting alongside a nurse was daunting, Betsy's encouragement allowed us to bond with our son in ways we hadn’t imagined, fostering a sense of partnership that eased our worries and deepened our appreciation for her. No matter how long it took or how many explanations she had to offer, she welcomed our involvement. In her eyes, our questions weren't a burden; they were a bridge to understanding. Each interaction was marked by her unwavering commitment, transforming what could have been a mere duty into a shared journey of care and connection.
Betsy was our nurse the first day our son was administered chemo. And while chemo is not common in the NICU, Betsy was more than prepared for the day. Her commitment to ensuring that our son received the highest standard of care was evident while also empowering us as parents. She took the time to explain everything to us—every protocol, every precaution. Her meticulous attention to detail resulted in written instructions that not only guided her but also ensured the night nurse was fully informed. Betsy didn't just follow procedures; she personalized them, understanding the emotional weight they carried for us as parents. Her thoroughness extended even to physical reminders around the room. By posting signs about double-gloving for 48 hours and separating his chemotherapy laundry, she transformed the clinical environment into one where we felt empowered rather than overwhelmed. Betsy became an expert in this unfamiliar world, and I felt an immense sense of relief knowing she was by our son's side during those crucial days.
When Betsy heard that we might be transferred out of the NICU, she immediately started writing down things to help the nurses and the new care team. She took the time to put together our son’s particulars regarding his care times. She also helped ease our minds by educating us on the difference and what to expect in the PICU. She listened to our concerns and always helped us work through them. Her commitment to both the well-being of our son and the peace of mind of us as his parents exemplifies the highest standards of nursing practice.
We are incredibly grateful that she was there for our son —a true embodiment of compassion and professionalism. Whenever we’ve had concerns or questions, Betsy has always been there with clear, thoughtful answers that helped us make informed decisions tailored to our son. As time has passed, we’ve come to know Betsy not just as a nurse but as a person who became an integral part of our lives. Her heart and dedication made an immeasurable difference in our journey.
