Betsy was recovering a patient after surgery who was feeling down and defeated. This patient had just been given news of the need for two more surgeries and further months of treatment. Betsy spent time talking with the patient and trying to cheer the patient up. She said, “how about I dress up for you after these procedures?”. The patient laughed and said, “We’ll see what you got.” The next day Betsy walked up to his bedside with bright shiny pearls and said, “I wore my pearls for you!” The next day she wore a tiara crown. The patient was smiling with Betsy and grateful for her thoughtfulness. PACU nurses frequently go unrecognized because their patients are sleeping and medicated so one of Betsy’s co-workers wanted to share this story of Betsy’s compassionate act for her patient.
