I have worked with Betsy for more than 20 years, most recently in the capacity of Clinical Resource Nurse for NICU. Betsy’s role encompasses supporting the needs of the Clinical Coordinator, bedside nurse and medical team. She is able to seamlessly meet the needs of her colleagues and also provide needed support to families. Betsy demeanor provides a sense of confidence, calmness, and reassurance to all challenging situations. She is recognized as an astute clinical expert and her opinion is frequently sought to sort out complex concerns that are unclear and require “thinking outside the box.” She holds herself and others to the highest level of professional behavior and is a role model for collaboration to all health care providers. Betsy always provides 100% attention and presence to those with which she interfaces, and makes it clear that they are her priority. This is a rare gift in an era of the hectic, health care milieu. Betsy is one of 2 QBS in the NICU and is frequently providing interpretation to families who are often scared and vulnerable. Betsy has taken ownership to do phone follow-up calls on the Spanish speaking families after discharge. It is not unusual for Betsy to spend hours organizing complex, medical follow-up after she has determined that a discharged patient would benefit from being seen sooner than anticipated. Betsy’s care and compassion has touched hundreds of families and colleagues and has made a significant, positive impact on their lives. She is an incredible ambassador for Children’s Hospital and we are blessed to have her in the NICU!
