As our supervisor, Bette is an exceptional mentor. She models all the wonderful attributes of a great leader. She is always positive, respectful, available, flexible, honest, encouraging, and challenging.
This June Bette will celebrate 40 years of nursing practice, influencing so many lives (patients and caregivers) in bedside nursing, school nursing, and CNA education and training. Bette has worked in the CNA education department over the past 15 years and has truly made an impact on inspiring the next generation of caregivers. She not only manages but is an instructor/educator for our extremely organized state-certified CNA class, using a variety of tools to enhance learning. She works closely with the state to stay on top of current trends and changes. Our department also offers ancillary support to CNAs to help with onboarding, such as blood pressure and orientation classes. She has also been a great advocate in organizing and promoting dementia classes, an area she holds near and dear. Bette also instructs a state-certified Train the Trainer Program, inspiring new educators within the state.
An area we all feel she excels in is in the art of her storytelling. She captivates her audience easily with her vast knowledge and great stories. She knows just where and when in her lecture to insert them, which makes learning more impactful. (Just ask some of her prior CNA students!) As our supervisor, she is an exceptional mentor. She models all the wonderful attributes of a great leader. She is always positive, respectful, available, flexible, honest, encouraging, and challenging.
Bette helps to motivate us, the educators, to evaluate our programs and ourselves. She promotes self-growth and professional development amongst our education team by encouraging us to attend classes, conferences, as well as supporting the efforts of the Aurora Academy, and Nurse Residency. She stays abreast of organizational changes and supports The Advocate Aurora mission and vision.
Bette has worked hard to become certified in Nursing Professional Development. She has served on many committees and boards to enhance patient care and safety, as well as support in our community (i.e. serves on the Hales Corners Board of Health and was consulted to help at North Division High School for their CNA program). She is a member of the GMNSDO (Greater Milwaukee Nursing Staff Development Organization).
Bette truly is an amazing person, nurse, mentor, educator, coworker, wife, mother, and grandmother who is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
