Betty Essel, Registered Nurse

I would like to nominate Betty, who cared for me during my hospital stay and truly went above and beyond anything I have ever experienced before. During a very difficult and stressful time, she showed exceptional compassion, patience, and dedication. She stayed an hour past the end of her shift to support me, helping to keep me calm and reassured when I was struggling. Her kindness and willingness to give her own time made an enormous difference to my experience in the hospital. What stood out even more was her determination to advocate for patients. Another patient on the ward had been told by other staff that she would need to wait until the following day for an X-ray. Betty refused to give up, and she personally went down to the X-ray department and successfully arranged for the scan to be done that same day. This showed true commitment to patient care and wellbeing. Her actions demonstrated genuine compassion, professionalism, and dedication far beyond what is expected. I have never met a nurse like her in my life, and she made an incredibly positive impact on both the other patients around her and me. She is an absolute credit to the NHS and truly deserves recognition for the outstanding care she provides.
