Betty Tam is very knowledgeable in the care of sick babies. She has been an RN for over 30 years. She trained in Hong Kong and in England for the NICU and immigrated to the United States in 1992. Betty pays attention to detail and expects her coworkers to be attentive to her patient's needs. If a baby needs the attention of a Respiratory Therapist, she gets that attention for the baby. If she sees something she believes the neonatologist should know, she will call them. She expects excellence from herself and others, elevating the quality of care for each of her patients. Her IV starting skills are exemplary. She keeps the baby's environment neat and clean. Her documentation skills are also impressive.
Betty is very professional, but she also has a big, caring heart. She is gentle with her patients and her patient's parents. She does an excellent job teaching baby's parents how to involve themselves in the careof their little ones. This makes a stressful and sometimes scary situation much more tolerable because of the supportive and encouraging way she deals with them. Betty goes about her business with no expectation of fanfare or recognition. I have been a Neonatal Respiratory Therapist for over four decades and I have to say, Betty is one of the finest nurses I have everworked with. I consider it a privilege and an honor to work beside her because she always makes me want to be the best that I can be.
