Eager to be discharged after emergency surgery earlier in the week, after almost 8 hours of delays in my discharge it was finally official around 5 PM. Having called for a wheelchair that didn't show up, I started out on my crutches (leg surgery). Beverly Frazier told me to wait and went by herself to find a wheelchair and personally bring me to the lobby. On the way, Beverly learned that I planned on driving myself home and that my car was "somewhere" in the visitor's lot. I was admitted through the ER and a colleague had moved my car earlier in the week.
Despite the 28-degree weather, Beverly walked the parking lot with my key fob until she found my car. She then scraped the ice from the windshield and brought it to me at the entrance. Before leaving, Beverly tapped on the window and asked me to call her when I was safely home. The level of simple, personal kindness she demonstrated is indicative of an environment that really believes in caring for the patient. I am uniformly impressed with my interactions with the nursing staff but wanted to call out Beverly's extra effort and concern for me.
