Bianka changed my life forever. Even three months after giving birth, I still cannot stop thinking about her. I am forever grateful and thankful that she was there with me.
I went into the emergency room at the Wesson Women’s Clinic with labor pain and was admitted to labor and delivery. The nurse on shift was taking my information while the OB on call was checking how dilated I was. Everything was fine at first, until a couple of hours had gone by, and it was already 10:00 pm, and I had only dilated to 3 cm.

She then talked about the option of breaking my water, which I said no to, and that it was not an option because I wanted it to happen on its own. The OB came into my room a couple more times and kept asking me if I had changed my mind, and I continued to tell her that it was not an option.

That is when I started to feel uncomfortable because I wanted things done my way, and it did not feel like I was being heard. Shift change came, and that is when I met Bianka, an RN, or as I like to call her, “the angel God sent to protect me.”

When we first met, she introduced herself and told me something I will never forget: “I’m here for you and your baby’s needs, don’t be afraid of asking me anything.” She came into my room a couple of times, and then I told her about the situation with the OB on call.

She immediately reassured me and told me it was my decision. That is when she educated me on Pitocin and explained how high I could go without having to break my water, which was up to 20.

I then asked if she could come into the room whenever the OB came in to check how dilated I was, and she did just that. When the OB mentioned breaking my water again, I burst into tears, and that is when Bianka stepped in and made sure my voice was being heard.

I remember feeling so scared and hopeless as a 19-year-old, soon-to-be mother, being treated like I did not know what I was getting myself into. But Bianka treated me differently. She assured me that my birth plan would come to life, and she became the support I so desperately needed.

She gave me back massages when I was crying in pain, she held me when I tried to walk, she coached me through things I did not fully understand, and she made sure I felt safe and protected during the process of bringing my baby into this world.

Bianka changed my life forever. Even three months after giving birth, I still cannot stop thinking about her. I am forever grateful and thankful that she was there with me.

The world needs more people like Bianka. She is my angel, and she deserves everything good the world has to offer.
