I wanted to share with you a story of Bill Lawson a day shift nurse for 3 North. Bill went above and beyond to ensure a patient was able to get home to her husband after being discharged.
Patient on 3 North was discharged to go home. Bill Lawson was her nurse and the PCT wheeled her out to the main lobby after receiving her discharge instructions. When the PCT was wheeling another patient outside for discharge, she noticed the patient standing by her car crying. The patient had driven herself to the ED. She found one of her tires flat when she was ready to go home. She did not have AAA and her husband was not well enough to drive the distance to pick her up. Additionally, her children were not available to pick her up until that evening.
Nicole brought the patient inside to the main lobby and called Security. Unfortunately, security was unable to help.
The PCT informed the patient that she would be right back. Nicole returned to the unit and reported the events to Bill. Bill had asked one of his peers to cover his patients and informed her that he would be right back. The PCT returned to the lobby and noticed that Bill was outside changing the patient's tire. The patient was able to get home safely.
