During my 10 day stay on 4 South, many wonderful nurses and techs cared for me. I won't forget their professionalism, their kindness, and gentleness. Now I have a new appreciation for the challenges and hard work that nurses perform on every shift. They are truly the angels in the healthcare community.
I want to give a special thank you to Bill who cared for me the night before my surgery for a small bowel obstruction. Bill was my special angel for several reasons:
His confidence and experience with the technical aspects of the job gave me the confidence I needed before going into surgery.
He seemed to connect with me and my worries and fears of the unknown with such great empathy. Without being asked, he took the time to explain everything which was very comforting.
Bill has skills that can't be taught in a classroom or tested on an examination. Empathy, eye contact, listening and the gentle touch. I wish I could bring Bill home to share the holiday meal.
