Billie received the DAISY Award for her unrelenting determination to get a very ill and disabled patient the expensive medications he needed. Billie and a physician worked with the patient daily to keep him from needing to go to the Emergency Room. Meanwhile, Billie and one of her colleagues sought authorizations from many drug companies for the expensive medications the patient needed. The patient was saving every penny he could so that he could start the medicines and feel better, but the cost was out of reach at nearly $3,000 to begin and then $600 each month. Billie and her colleague received denial after denial, yet remained determined. Finally, after many applications and dozens of phone calls, their persistence paid off and one company accepted his application. Even better, there would be no cost to the patient!

Billie and her colleague left no stone unturned. They exceeded all expectations and even worked during their off-duty time until they were successful.
