I wanted to let you know that during yesterday's dayshift Bindu Varughese went above and beyond, and was an exemplar of outstanding teamwork, contributing to great patient care. I had two patients, one who had a bronch/extubation in the morning, the other was covid precautions on a vent. In the early afternoon, Bindu came to me and said she noticed I was busy and that she would help me with my second patient. Bindu offered to help me give a CHG bath to the covid patient. I was happy to accept the help from a wonderful colleague. At the time the family of the second patient was meeting with palliative care. Bindu and I used the ceiling lift and did a CHG bath and full linen change and were almost finished when the family returned to the room. I explained to them that we were bathing the patient and asked for a few more minutes. After the family returned, they expressed gratitude that the patient had been bathed. As it turns out, the daughter had made the decision to withdraw care. As the shift progressed, the patient was changed to hospice, vent support was discontinued, and I provided comfort measures, with the patient passing away around 6pm. I can't express how grateful I was for Bindu stepping in and helping our patient. As it happened, his daughter was able to spend the last few hours with her father, who was freshly bathed with new linens and gown, as she said her goodbyes. Bindu and I were able to contribute towards a dignified farewell from daughter to father. Bindu displayed both great leadership and great character by helping her colleagues. Bindu didn't just ask me if I needed help, she told me she was going to help me, and she certainly did. Bindu happened to be precepting yesterday. What an excellent example for a preceptee to be able to observe a preceptor stepping in and helping others. Bindu sets a good example and contributes to MSICU being a great place to work.
