The husband and wife were so excited and happy to see each other and the staff was so touched with their reunion that many had tears in their eyes. Their daughter was also so touched that Binky took the time out to arrange this event.
Binky was recognized for going above and beyond for a patient and his wife who were recently in the hospital together.
In December, a husband and wife who had been married for sixty years were both admitted to the hospital simultaneously. The husband was an 87-year-old gentleman who was admitted to the Telemetry department on our 5th floor. Shortly thereafter, his wife was admitted to the hospital with stroke symptoms and was staying on the unit directly below his on the 4th floor. The husband had not been able to visit with his wife prior to her admission due to COVID visiting restrictions and he was not informed of his wife's subsequent admission because his wife and their daughter did not want to worry him more. He was just a little confused and Binky was making attempts to connect with him when she found out that his wife was an inpatient and was in the unit right below his. Binky also found out that his wife would be discharged soon and she knew her patient would really benefit from seeing his wife, so she reached out to the Assistant Nurse Manager on duty and asked permission to arrange and coordinate a visit for her patient and his wife. Staff in both units were happy to help Binky arrange this reunion for a couple that has been married for over half a century! Binky ensured that all infection prevention protocols were followed and reached out to their daughter as well. One of the Assistant Nurse Managers shared that the husband and wife were so excited and happy to see each other and the staff was so touched with their reunion that many had tears in their eyes. Their daughter was also so touched that Binky took the time out to arrange this event and also thought to include her in it.
We want to thank Binky for creating this caring moment for her patient and his wife, their daughter, and all the staff that were able to participate at this moment.
In addition, Binky is strongly motivated to achieve optimal results in our department. Very flexible, a good example of stewardship when it comes to safety, care experience & Quality. She makes sure that the unit is a high-functioning unit. ALWAYS SPEAKS UP for Safety & takes ownership of the unit. Educate peers/staff/co-workers to make sure they follow the correct process. She is very performance conscious. Binky always troubleshooting in problem-solving, makes a strong effort to be a part of the solution. When it comes to her role as charge nurse she goes above and beyond with staffing, cost-efficient assignment balances workflow and optimizes productivity. We called her "Jack of All Trades."
