Birgit Seeburger, Nurse

My daughter E had been experiencing recurring seizures after Christmas 2025 that suggested epilepsy. By chance, we had already been in contact with the Social Pediatric Center (SPZ) in Konstanz. Our pediatrician then referred us, and after a phone call with the SPZ, we received an EEG appointment for January. We were also offered the option of having our daughter admitted to the Children's Hospital as an inpatient. At that time, the seizures were infrequent, and due to the long distance, we initially declined.

On December 31, 2025, the seizures became much more frequent, and we drove to Konstanz at 7:00 p.m. By 8:00 p.m., we were standing at the entrance of the Children's Hospital, emotionally exhausted because our daughter was not doing well. Then Nurse Birgit opened the door, wearing a ‘Happy New Year’ pair of glasses on her nose, and greeted us in a calm and friendly manner. During the initial examination, she reassured us and cared for our daughter.

We remained in the hospital as inpatients for over a week, and during every shift, Nurse Birgit cared for E with great kindness and affection. She talked to her and also reassured my wife. Even after her shift had ended, she stayed with our daughter when several short seizures occurred one after another. She watched her closely to determine whether the episode had passed or whether she was still in that state.

This was, and continues to be, a very difficult time for us. However, the support and kindness we received on this ward—especially from Nurse Birgit—helped us tremendously.
