Blair's empathetic nature really helps our patients and parents open up to us about deeply personal topics.
Blair is a nurse that I have the pleasure of working with at the Behavioral Mental Health Clinic at Chantilly. She is a natural working with the children and teens in our clinic who are suffering from mental and behavioral health concerns. Blair is one of the first people that they meet when they come to the clinic, and she plays a huge role in coordinating their care.
I have had multiple parents and patients comment on how she immediately made them feel comfortable coming to the clinic. It can be anxiety-provoking to talk to a provider about your innermost emotions, and her empathetic nature really helps our patients and parents open up to us about deeply personal topics. She has special relationships with our patients too; many of the patients I see look forward to seeing her each time they come in.
Parents have commented on how thorough and efficient her communication is when they see her in the clinic and when they call her nurse voicemail line. Blair could not be a better fit for working in the behavioral mental health clinic as she truthfully cares for this population deeply and shows empathy and respect to all patients.
***
Blair regularly provides exceptional care for children and youth while triaging youth to see our medical providers. She forms strong relationships with our youth, seeing them for their frequent visits to the clinic. For example, she developed a good relationship with a middle school patient while triaging her for one of our nurse practitioners for medication management over the course of time.
She was attentive to the patients’ unique identity and bonded over a love for animals. On one visit the youth disclosed that he was being bullied at school. Blair provided a very empathetic response and validated that bullying is not acceptable. She also alerted the provider who also addressed concerns with the youth and family. This is just one example of her exceptional work.
Over time, Blair forms important relationships with our patients and serves as the initial therapeutic point of contact. Without her care and relationship with patients, we would know less about our patients and would not be able to care for them as well. She is an integral part of the behavioral mental health team at the BMH Chantilly clinic.
