Blair N Richardson, RN

Blair is a phenomenal nurse who exemplifies the IU Health Values and outstanding compassion in her work every day. Blair admitted a young adult patient who had traveled from out of town and, unfortunately, suffered a sudden, traumatic cardiac arrest while competing in the Muncie Ironman. This patient was eventually pronounced brain dead, and the family agreed to organ donation. Blair took care of this patient on Saturday and Sunday and built a strong rapport and a trusting relationship with the family.

This patient had younger children who were struggling very hard with the thought of losing their dad. Blair did everything she could to make this situation a little easier on them. She even offered to work on her day off on that Monday to give the family continuity of care and a familiar face as they said their goodbyes. The patient's daughter asked if a song could be played during his honor walk, and Blair organized for this to be played on a Bluetooth speaker while the honor walk was taking place. The family was extremely grateful for the care Blair provided them, and they even gave her multiple hugs. This type of situation can weigh very heavily on the nurse, but Blair did an amazing job putting her emotions aside and staying strong and supportive for the family.
