Time after time I have watched her go the extra mile for her patients, she has advocated for the best care of her patients and has demanded that all those who work alongside her do the same. She leads by example and sets the standard high.
I started working here at the Chambersburg Hospital as a CNA late in the summer of 2015. From the very start of my time on 2E Bonni has been a fixture of our floor, she is an integral part of the nursing team. For me, coming into this environment with a very small medical background, her willingness to help was crucial to my own growth. I will point out that I believe the teamwork and camaraderie on 2E is phenomenal and unparalleled by any other unit. I also largely believe that Bonni is one of the nurses responsible for creating such a cohesive workspace between nurses, CNAs, secretaries, management etc…. Somehow, she seems to take a genuine interest in not only the lives of her coworkers, but her patients as well. Staff and patients alike feel comfortable confiding in her because they know that she is a true friend. She makes it her personal mission to lift all those around her. Countless times she has made amazing decorative cakes and other baked goods for her fellow staff, free of charge (she made me a Star Wars BB-8 cake for my birthday here at the hospital). Time after time I have watched her go the extra mile for her patients, she has advocated for the best care of her patients and has demanded that all those who work alongside her do the same. She leads by example and sets the standard high. Bonni is not A nurse, Bonni IS nurse. I don’t know how to phrase it better. She is the textbook definition of the word. Her selfless service is nothing short of exemplary, impeccable, and just magnificent. When I first started in my role as a CNA, I would tell people that I had no intention of going on to become a nurse. Bonni never accepted that, though. She continually told me to go and advance my education and eventually, I caved. Though I was all the way in San Antonio Texas for school, Bonni would reach out and see how I was doing. She was one of the first people I messaged when I passed my NCLEX. Bonni gives the best of herself to everyone she is around. She takes such pride in the achievement of goals from her patients and fellow staff. She continues to support patients even when she is stretched out from her multiple obligations.

I think it is important to note that she has also been battling cancer for over three years. Again, she puts others before herself, just this past month, while she herself been a patient in the hospital, she wrote birthday cards to all the staff with birthdays in April, June and July! Anyone who needs to see the best nurses to ever hold the mantle of RN, just needs to look at Bonni Myers. I know that if I end up being just half the nurse she is, then I will have been a success. I feel privileged to work alongside her. She is a true master of the craft, but the greatest thing I have learned from her is that anything that doesn’t help others is just a waste of time.

Note: Bonni passed away in June of 2023. This is her 3rd DAISY Award.
