Bonnie Struthers, RN

Bonnie meets and displays all criteria laid out on the prior page. In addition, she has years of dedicated service to Bryan and experience that will be difficult to replace. She makes the ORs run effectively, communicates with and coordinates patient cases, and also functions as a coworker when needed while genuinely caring about patients. Bonnie also makes the OR a fun place to work. I hope she is strongly considered for this award.

I am recognizing Bonnie, one of our charge nurses, because of the great leadership and compassion that she demonstrates every day. Bonnie has numerous years of experience, and that experience makes her a great resource for our staff. What sets her apart is not only her surgical knowledge, but also the calm, steady presence she brings to the chaotic moments in the hospital.

Recently, during a particularly challenging day with multiple add-on cases and staffing shortages, Bonnie coordinated the entire unit with great success. She anticipated the unit’s needs before anyone voiced them and communicated well with staff and anesthesia.

One example that highlights Bonnie’s excellence recently occurred when an emergent trauma case arrived unexpectedly. Bonnie was able to organize room assignments, mobilize staff to respond to the ER, and communicate clearly with anesthesia and the physicians. Because of her decision-making, the team was fully prepared and able to care for the patient without delay.

Bonnie is a role model for professionalism, integrity, and compassion. Her leadership strengthens our surgical department, and she is truly deserving of the DAISY Award.
