Brad regularly displays exceptional patient care qualities. It is clear that his patients' satisfaction and the quality of their care is his first priority. Many examples of his outstanding patient-care efforts come to mind, but an experience that occurred last week is one that has most recently warmed the hearts of our patients and represented the Cath Lab in an exceptional manner.
Last week, Brad was the nurse for a patient who was having a pacemaker implanted. The patient and her daughter, who had accompanied her to the appointment, were both very anxious about the procedure. This was the first time the patient had been to the Cath Lab, which would make any patient nervous. However, as Brad found out during his assessment of the patient, she had recently lost her husband to a heart attack, and her other daughter had passed away shortly before that. This unfortunate series of events only added to the patient and family's anxiety that day.
Brad visited the patient's room in Outpatient Services multiple times before the procedure to update her on her case start time and ensure that she was comfortable while she waited. Once the patient was brought back to the Cath Lab for her procedure, Brad went out to the waiting room to let her daughter know that the patient was comfortable and she was tolerating the procedure without difficulty.
The procedure progressed without difficulty and the patient was comfortable the whole time. Brad kept the patient informed of the progress throughout the entire case. At the end of the procedure, the patient was very appreciative of the care that the team had provided. Brad had each member of the Cath Lab team, including her Cardiologist, sign the patient's pink head pillow and gave it to the patient has a souvenir, while thanking her for choosing Hillcrest for her procedure. The patient and family were so touched by Brad's care, and were very appreciative. They mentioned to multiple people along their route that they were blown away by the above-and-beyond care that they received from Brad Hall.
Following that experience, Brad has started an initiative to create a "Thank You" packet for all patients who come through Cardiology services, with a signed picture of the team and educational information that the patient can take home.
