April 2025 Honoree
Brad Looney, RN
I presented for alcohol detox. All was going well as I was at the end of my observation period. I presented to the nurse's station to inquire about mailing meds and was informed that there was no mail service. When I turned to return to my room, 6 feet away, I froze at the door jam. With a firm grip on the jam, my cane locked into my right hip, and my knees locked. I could not move, so another nurse assisted me to my bed. Her observation noted something bad was wrong, and she had a coworker summon Brad Looney. On Brad's initial assessment, he activated a "Stroke Code." Although I couldn't move my left side and was having heavy fasciculations on the right and was unable to speak, I saw Brad take control of the scene and situation. When he spoke, it was with AUTHORITY!!! He quickly evacuated me to the PACU until a CT scan was done. Brad never once left my side; he never missed a beat. If you want to see professionalism and leadership in action, take it from a retired HME: Brad Looney is the one to watch. Period. The BEST!!
Thank you, Brad, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
