Brad was my mom's nurse for 3 nights during her recent stay at Franciscan Health East. Although a young man, Brad displayed wisdom, discernment, and skill beyond what those with much more experience have. Some nurses hold a special God-appointed gift to take care of their patients with compassion, and not just compassion in an ordinary way, but a compassion that lets the patient (my mom) know she was in good hands and could relax her fears and anxieties. One of the things Brad did was treat my mom as an individual, catering the care she received to her needs. Brad has a very calming spirit that is great for patients like my mom who are unsure. When we found out my mom wasn't going to make it, I saw Brad in the hallway and he hugged me with tears in his eyes and said, "This is the part of my job I carry home with me." Brad cared for my mom as though she was one of his family. Even when we moved to another floor for palliative care, Brad stopped by at the end of his shift and checked in on us because he cared. When my mom died on Monday, Brad came up and hugged us and grieved her loss with us. Brad is a young man of character and a very gifted nurse. He blessed my mom and our family greatly.
